University of Colorado runner Jenny Barringer won the Honda Award for track and field Wednesday. Barringer finished ninth for the U.S. in the Olympics in Beijing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, setting an American record of 9 minutes, 22.26 seconds. The senior captured her first indoor Big 12 championship in the mile this season with an NCAA-record time of 4:25.91, breaking a record set in 1988. Barringer is eligible for the Honda-Broderick Cup, given to the college female athlete of the year, and is competing this week in the NCAA outdoor championships. The Associated Press, AP file photo
