A Father’s Day fishing trip turned frightening for an Adams County couple when an unnamed woman allegedly stole the family car while their 5-year-old son was strapped into the back seat.

In preparing for the trip, the father loaded his son into the back seat and briefly returned to their house when he turned to see the vehicle driving away, authorities say.

The keys had been left in the car.

When the woman noticed the child in back, she returned the car to the family’s house at the 8100 block of Washington Street, authorities said.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department arrested the woman at the scene about 8:15 a.m. but is withholding her name.

The 28-year-old transient is being investigated for second-degree kidnapping, first-degree motor vehicle theft and driving under the influence, according to public information officer Sgt. Candi Baker. Jessica Fender, The Denver Post
