ROCKY FORD, Colo.—A Colorado university is looking for money to continue researching water quality at Fountain Creek and the Arkansas River in Otero County.
Colorado State University-Pueblo has asked for the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District to continue funding the study. The district board gave $375,000 last year. Researchers say they need another year of funding to study water quality downstream of the confluence of the river and creek.
University researchers say they need more study of contaminants in the water from runoff. Researchers will show what they’ve found so far at a July 15 presentation. The board’s general manager says the board supports the research but simply has no money to pay for it.
