Tens of thousands of bicyclists in the Denver area are expected to pedal their way to work tomorrow as part of Bike to Work Day.
The annual event drew about 35,000 riders last year, with scores dropping by more than 100 breakfast stations set up around the region.
The popular breakfast stations are back, including two on each end of downtown Denver — one at RTD’s Market Street Station and the other at Civic Center.
The stations offer free food and samples from participating vendors as well as a variety of local organizations promoting cycling and “green” living.
Most stations will be open from 6:30 until 9:00 a.m.
Organizers encourage riders to register, free of charge, for Bike to Work Day at the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) website at .
The site tracks individual registrations as well as company registrations. A list of breakfast stations, by city, is available at the website along with other information on the event, including help with planning routes.
The League of American Bicyclists has been sponsoring National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day since 1956, according to DRCOG. Colorado’s Bike to Work Day is always held on the fourth Wednesday of June.
The Civic Center station, hosted by Denver Public Works, will include a BMX team of trick-riders performing choreographed stunts and a team of bike technicians to help with minor repairs.
