Residents in an Englewood neighborhood where a body was found early Wednesday said they didn’t know the man found in an alley, and some speculated he was one of the homeless who frequent the area.

The still-unidentified man had head and leg injuries, but there were no obvious signs of an altercation or hit-and-run in the narrow, unpaved alley near East Oxford Avenue and South Lincoln Street.

Police have described the man only as white and about 50 years old.

Sherry Arendall, who lives about a block, speculated the dead man was hit by a car on busy South Lincoln Street, wandered into the alley, collapsed and died.

“This is a nice neighborhood, but we’re so close to so many of ‘city’ problems that you can expect those problems to spill over sometime,” she said.

Police have not yet said how the man died. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will make that official determination.
