GOLDEN, Colo.—A 17-year-old Arvada boy has been sentenced to two years of probation in the death of a friend who was “skitching,” or skateboarding while holding onto a car.

The teen, whose name wasn’t released because he is a juvenile, also was sentenced Friday to 150 hours of community service. He pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in May.

The boy was driving a car Feb. 25 while his 16-year-old friend Ryan Bailey hung on to its side while riding his skateboard. Bailey let go of the car, was hit by it and died from his injuries.

Prosecutors say that in the past six months, another Arvada teen and a Littleton teen also have died from skitching.
