DENVER—Denver’s commemoration of a riot at a Greenwich Village bar that sparked a movement for equal rights for gays drew an estimated 100,000, according to police.
The riot in 1969 sparked several days of disturbances now known as the Stonewall rebellion.
Sunday’s Gay Pride Parade started at Denver’s Cheesman Park and worked its way on Colfax Avenue, finishing at PrideFest at Civic Center Park across the street from the Capitol.
Longtime parade spectator Amanda Lewis says the crowds have grown each year since the first Denver commemoration 34 years ago.
