Jason Mraz has a unique name, a menagerie of little hats and, now, his first headlining gig at Red Rocks. The laid-back, Virginia-bred songwriter straddles acoustic pop and jazzy, horn-driven numbers on his latest album, “We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things.” Expanding on the folk style that first gained him attention in San Diego’s coffeehouse scene, “We Sing” nods toward his musical theater background and grab bag of pop influences. Tickets for Mraz’s Sept. 19 show are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($45-$50, )
The Black Crowes have surprised many in recent years with a reinvigorated live set that finds the bluesy rockers in top form after an early-2000s hiatus. Tickets for the Crowes’ Nov. 13 show at the Fillmore Auditorium are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($40-$45, )
Motörhead had such a blast at the Fillmore in September that the British metal pioneers are returning almost exactly a year later. Tickets for the Sept. 26 show with similarly aging/ still-boisterous Reverend Horton Heat are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($28, )
B.H. Surfers (fans know what the initials stand for) are less a ’90s alt-rock relic than a brilliantly demented Texas institution with ties to Daniel Johnston, the Lemonheads and many others. Tickets for the band’s Oct. 9 show at the Ogden Theatre are on sale at 10 a.m. today. ($25-$30, Ticketmaster)
De La Soul sound positively quaint these days next to crunk and other snaggle-toothed styles of hip-hop, but the 22-year-old, turntable-happy group still brings the smart, funny flows and jumpy beats. Tickets for the trio’s Bluebird Theater set on Aug. 31 are on sale at 10 a.m. today. ($28.25-$30, Ticketmaster)
Skillet sports a hard-edged, guitar-driven sound that owes more to nu-metal and Bad Religion-style melodies than the contemporary Christian rock scene. The band hits the Paramount on Nov. 7 as part its sprawling national tour. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. today. ($26- $60.35, TicketHorse)
Billy Squier may be the only musical artist, contemporary or otherwise, without an official MySpace page, but that isn’t stopping the ’80s power-balladeer from touring. Expect all the leathery FM hits (“My Kinda Lover,” “Stroke,” “Everybody Wants You”) at his Sept. 14 Ogden Theatre show. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. today. ($35-$40, Ticketmaster)
Deadmau5 (that last part rhymes with “house,” just like the musical style) is 28-year- old Canadian DJ Joel Zimmerman and his array of beats and squiggly synths. The favorite stops by the Ogden on Nov. 4. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($23-$26, Ticketmaster)
