Security was tight as the man connected to a 2007 shooting case that left one person dead and half a dozen injured learned his fate today.

Anthony Chavez, 26, was sentenced to 24 years for his involvement in the deadly shooting as part of his plea agreement in which he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Investigators say on Nov. 4, 2007, at about 2 a.m., a fight broke out outside a nightclub near 15th and Market Streets as the club was closing.

Ted Padilla, 25, was killed. At the time of the shooting, witness Dale Sasse said earlier in the night at the club, a group had made comments to Padilla about his jewelry, and the club’s management kicked out that group.

The initial investigation revealed several shots were fired into a crowd on the sidewalk by a single Hispanic male. A total of seven victims sustained gunshot wounds, two were treated and released and four required hospitalization. Padilla was the only victim who died from his injuries.
