GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Authorities say a 5-foot-wide boulder tumbled down a western Colorado canyon wall and crashed into a pickup on Interstate 70, injuring one person.

The boulder broke loose from DeBeque (dih-BEK’) Canyon just northeast of Grand Junction at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The State Patrol says 28-year-old Wayne Fenimore of Montrose, a passenger in the pickup, was injured. He was reported in serious condition Wednesday at a Grand Junction hospital.

The patrol says the driver, 31-year-old Kelli Bohl of Rifle, wasn’t injured.

The top of the pickup was smashed and its wheels had dug into the asphalt.
