Despite the poor economy, the Colorado Lottery managed to post the second- best sales performance in its history in fiscal 2009.

The lottery had sales of $493.4 million during the fiscal year. It also continued to generate significant funds for its beneficiaries, returning $119.6 million to the state, the third-best year in terms of proceeds.

“I think we’ve weathered the storm well,” said Colorado Lottery director Jack Boehm. “We didn’t expect to register gains in this economic climate.”

The lottery met its obligations to its partners. Great Outdoors Colorado received $54.3 million; the Conservation Trust Fund, $47.8 million; and Colorado State Parks, $11.9 million. In addition, the Public School Capital Construction Assistance Fund received $5.5 million.
