About 41,000 fewer people worked for U.S. airlines in June compared with June 2008, according to federal figures released Friday.
A review of U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics records shows most lost jobs were with major airlines.
In June, there was a total of 576,177 employees at major, national and regional airlines. In June 2008, there was a total of 617,837.
United Airlines, the largest carrier at Denver International Airport, had 42,539 employees in June, compared with 54,457 in the same month last year.
Denver-based Frontier Airlines listed 4,880 employees in June, compared with 5,459 in June 2008.
There were 35,654 employees at Southwest Airlines, the third-largest Denver carrier, in June, compared with 34,373 in June 2008.
Frontier’s subsidiary, Lynx Aviation, had 418 employees in June, up from 376.
June’s airline employment numbers are relatively unchanged from May.
