A 32-year-old man who spent the night on Mount Ida after breaking his leg in a 20-foot fall was flown of the mountain by helicopter to St. Anthony Central Hospital this afternoon.

Ranganathan Chitoor Parameswaran is in stable condition, said Rocky Mountain National Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson.

Rocky Mountain National Park staff and members of Rocky Mountain Rescue reached Parameswaran, who was being tended to by two park rangers who spent the night with him, at about 9:20 a.m. He was about 200 feet below the summit on a steep slope of loose rock and scree.

He fell at about 1 p.m. Saturday as he descended toward the Gorge Lake area with other members of a Denver hiking group, said Rocky Mountain National Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson.

Parameswaran was loaded into the chopper at about 1:40 p.m. A member of St. Anthony’s emergency room staff said he wasn’t available to talk to The Denver Post.

The 12,880-foot summit is located 4.5 miles from the Milner Pass Trailhead off of Trail Ridge Road. The elevation gain from the trailhead is 2,130 feet.
