LONGMONT, Colo.—Authorities say police and deputies fired 16 rounds at a Longmont man who was shot and killed after a 20-minute car chase early Monday.
Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle says 35-year-old Brian Christopher Naranjo was holding a weapon and had raised his arm and turned toward the police and deputies when they fired.
Pelle says the officers fired almost simultaneously. It wasn’t yet known how many Naranjo was hit.
Authorities say Naranjo had been pulled over for a routine stop but sped away when a deputy saw he had a gun. Naranjo’s car came to a stop after a pursuing Longmont officer rammed it.
Records show Naranjo has arrests dating to 1992 on charges including child abuse and drug and weapons violations.
