News Corp. is considering selling Dow Jones & Co.’s stock-index business to more closely focus the unit on news operations including The Wall Street Journal, according to a person familiar with the matter.
News Corp. hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to help evaluate a sale, which could include changing the name of the 113-year-old Dow Jones industrial average, said the person. The Wall Street Journal reported the possible sale earlier.
News Corp. chief executive Rupert Murdoch wrote down the value of the unit’s goodwill and intangible assets by $2.8 billion last year.
