Getting your player ready...

Eric Young Jr., making another start in center field because of injuries to Dexter Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez, showed off his speed with good and bad results. In the sixth, he reached first on a bunt single, catching the Giants off guard with his speed. But in the bottom of the inning, Young raced in on a sinking line drive by Eli Whiteside, trying to pull off a circus catch. Instead, the ball got past Young. Whiteside had a standup triple.

Wrong foot.

The Rockies entered the game with 994 strikeouts, ranking fourth in the major leagues. So it wasn’t a good omen when Giants left-hander Barry Zito struck out Young, Clint Barmes and Troy Tulowitzki to open the game.

Rare rough outing.

Starter Jason Marquis allowed five or more runs in a National League park other than Coors Field for the first time since allowing six in Arizona on April 20.
