Crews have completed asphalt removal on the Cache la Poudre River in northern Colorado, where two separate tanker truck crashes dumped about 10,000 gallons of asphalt in less than two weeks.

Officials said Saturday that nothing visual remains, but booms have been placed below the spill to catch any residue. The booms will be assessed on Tuesday and, until then, a section of the river remains closed to recreational use.

In both crashes, the drivers were working for subcontractors on a resurfacing project on Colorado 14. They have been cited for careless driving and could face federal fines for violating the Clean Water Act.
