ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK — Rangers who travel the backcountry of Rocky Mountain National Park now wear high-visibility yellow uniforms, a change prompted by the difficulty of finding a ranger who fell and died in 2005.
Thirty-one-year-old Jeff Christensen was wearing the standard green-and-gray ranger uniform when he died in a remote part of the park.
Officials say his uniform blended in with the terrain and helped hide him from ground and air searchers.
A hiker happened upon Christensen’s body eight days after he disappeared.
Christensen’s parents, Chris and Dale Christensen, raised $5,000 for the new uniforms by making and selling note cards from their son’s photos of the park.
