NEW YORK — President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao offered each other diplomatic assurances Tuesday as the U.S. sought help from China in dealing with Iran and North Korea’s nuclear programs.
In a meeting on the margins of the U.N. General Assembly, Obama told Hu that his administration regards the nuclear threats of Iran and North Korea as critical dangers to the security of the U.S., a senior American official said.
Obama’s comments come as the two countries are embroiled in a trade dispute over tire imports.
Neither leader made any direct mention of the flare-up.
