A wind-blown fire threatened a number of homes in southwestern Adams County early this afternoon, burning into the backyards of some homes and destroying three sheds.
Dave Baldwin, EMS chief for the North Washington Fire District, said the fire was reported about 1:45 p.m. on a fence line behind the Briarwood Apartments, 7470 Dakin St.
Baldwin said the fire, whipped by winds, spread toward the homes where it burned backyards and destroyed some sheds.
He said three engines, a ladder truck and two medical units responded. The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes.
He said the cause of the fire was unknown. Investigators were on the scene in an attempt to determine the cause, Baldwin said.
The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind warning for the Front Range this afternoon, with winds between 20 and 35 mph. Gusts could reach 45 mph.
