DENVER—Xcel Energy and the Denver Public Library are teaming up to make energy meters available for people to check out free of charge and plug into home appliances to see how much energy they’re using.
The meters work on any standard 120-volt electric appliance. They come with a carrying case and instructions.
The meters can be reserved online at denverlibrary.org or at any Denver library.
Xcel Energy market manager Chris Dierker says people can determine the exact operating cost of refrigerators, air conditioners, computers and other appliances and predict savings by reducing energy use.
Xcel Energy says 50 meters are available through the Watts Up? program, but there is a waiting list.
