ATHENS, Greece — Greeks vote today in a general election that is likely to result in a change in government.
The two leading candidates, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, 53, and opposition leader George Papandreou, 57, are both scions of political families.
Papandreou’s Panhellenic Socialist Movement is favored to beat Karamanlis’ conservative New Democracy in the vote by nearly 10 million registered voters. A key difference is the candidates’ approaches to the nation’s economic woes. The last polls showed the socialists ahead by about 6 percent.
