A late-night meeting held Friday by the board of the Cesar Chavez Academy in Pueblo resulted in the firing of the school’s chief executive, Lawrence Hernandez, his wife, Annette, who served as chief operating officer and academy executive Velia Rincon, according to the Pueblo Chieftain.
The board’s decision follows months of struggles between the Cesar Chavez School Network board and the academy that has resulted in audits, allegations of financial and educational improprieties and raucous public meetings.
In late September, restraining orders were issued against the Hernadezes, who allegedly made threats and intimidated network board president Dennis Feuerstein and a principal at Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School.
