COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A former Fort Carson soldier has been convicted of wounding a pregnant woman in a drive-by shooting.
Jurors took three hours Monday to find Jose Miguel Barco guilty of two counts of attempted first-degree murder and menacing in the April 2008 wounding of Ginny Stefanic. She was six months pregnant at the time. Barco was acquitted on a third attempted murder count.
Prosecutors say Barco had just been tossed out of a party when he returned with a gun and fired five to six shots into the house, striking Stefanic in the leg. She and her child survived.
Sentencing was scheduled for Nov. 30.
