FORT CARSON, Colo.—Military officials say a ninth Fort Carson soldier died in Afghanistan over the weekend in a separate attack from one that killed the others.
The Department of Defense said Wednesday that 23-year-old Spc. Kevin O. Hill, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Sunday at Contingency Outpost Dehanna of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked. He was assigned to the 576th Mobility Augmentation Company based at Fort Carson.
The Army post says he joined the Army on Sept. 16, 2008. He was sent to Iraq last February and served there until his unit was relocated to Afghanistan in April.
On Saturday, eight Fort Carson soldiers were killed in a battle in Afghanistan’s Kamdesh district, near the eastern border with Pakistan.
