GOLDEN, Colo.—A 28-year-old Evergreen man accused of causing injuries that prosecutors say left his girlfriend’s daughter legally blind has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Shane Michael Kendall pleaded guilty in August to first-degree assault and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. He was sentenced Friday.
Jefferson County prosecutors say his girlfriend’s daughter, then age 2, was taken to a hospital Dec. 9 with head injuries and bruises. Kendall had watched the girl while her mother was working.
Prosecutors say Kendall never admitted to causing the injuries but gave various explanations for what caused them, such as that the girl fell down the stairs or hit a wall when they were horsing around.
