The Horned Frogs
Colorado State at TCU, 2 p.m. Saturday, Versus
For the record:TCU improved to 5-0, 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference after a 20-17 victory Saturday at Air Force. The narrow escape dropped TCU from No. 10 to No. 12 in the Associated Press poll while moving the Frogs from No. 9 to No. 8 in the coaches poll. The coaches poll counts toward the BCS standings.
Streaking: Place-kicker Ross Evans was good on two field goals to improve to 5-of-6 for the season.
Who’s hot: Wide receiver Jimmy Young had six catches for 113 yards against the Falcons for his sixth career 100-yard day. It was the best receiving production of the season for any TCU player.
Who’s not: Quarterback Andy Dalton didn’t throw a TD pass and was sacked three times.
Key stat: TCU has led time of possession in all five games this season.
FYI: When TCU has won its MWC opener (2005, 2008), the Frogs went on to combined 15-1 league records. . . . TCU’s 5-0 start is its best since 2003, when the Fort Worth school opened 10-0. . . . Defensive end Jerry Hughes, up for a slew of national postseason awards, had only one assisted tackle against the Falcons.
Coachspeak: “I told my team that maybe the man upstairs just isn’t going to make it easy.” — TCU coach Gary Patterson, on the brutal weather conditions at Air Force
