ALAMOSA — Colorado Mines spotted Adams State the first touchdown of the game, then ran off 37 unanswered points, including two TDs from the defense, while routing the Grizzlies 37-14 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.

The Grizzlies scored with 9:10 left in the first quarter on the first of two Trevor Eggleston-to-Ryan Hedberg scoring passes, but Mines (6-2, 6-0 RMAC) took a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter on Dalton Lane’s 21-yard field goal and Kyle Goracke’s fumble recovery in the end zone. Adams State (3-5, 3-3) started its drive after the field goal on its own 3-yard line after the kickoff was muffed. A false-start penalty moved the ball back to the 2. Bryce Buderus was stuffed at the goal line and fumbled the ball, and Goracke recovered.

Mines quarterback David Pesek had a 23-yard rushing TD in the second quarter and connected with Adam Saur from 40 yards out in the third. The Orediggers’ second defensive score came in the fourth on Jerrod Doucet’s 29-yard fumble return.

Pesek was 18-of-32 for 272 yards. Saur caught five passes for 99 yards.

Mesa had a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on the first of Sweeney’s field goals and Will Halboth’s 5-yard run. Western (3-5, 3-3) took a 14-10 halftime lead on Blake Krenke’s 58-yard fumble return and a Tyler Daniels-to-Shaun Suttorp 3-yard pass.
