DENVER—Colorado lawmakers have rejected a resolution urging Congress to back a single payer health care plan.

The resolution voted down Monday by the Legislature’s Health Care Task Force said the current system is “fragmented, costly, bureaucratic and administratively wasteful.”

Opponents said a single-payer plan would be too costly and force health care rationing.

Supporters said they were hoping to persuade President Barack Obama and Congress to allow Colorado to provide a single-payer system and protect hundreds of thousands of residents who are without health insurance.
