About 200 people were in line Tuesday morning when Southwest Airlines opened the doors to a job fair, with hundreds more flowing into the Doubletree Hotel throughout the day.
The Dallas-based carrier wants to hire about 200 people, with an unspecified number in Denver. There are Denver openings for customer-service and ramp positions.
Last week, Southwest announced it was adding 13 daily flights and six nonstop destinations out of Denver by May in an expansion that will make Denver its seventh-largest station.
“I’ve been unemployed since April,” said Steve Morris of Loveland. “I was in outside sales, and I would love to work with people again.”
Paul Wilson said he heard about the fair and hopped on a plane in Maine to attend.
Wilson said he wanted a chance to meet Southwest employees and to give them a chance to meet him.
“That’s what today is all about,” said Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz. “The idea is to introduce people to our culture and provide them with face time with us.”
No applications were taken. Instead, attendees were guided on how to create a profile on , where job listings are posted and all applications are taken.
