At least 23 heads of private colleges and universities earned more than $1 million each in fiscal 2008, says a study by the Chronicle of Higher Education to be released today.
Topping the list is Shirley Ann Jackson at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., whose total compensation was pegged at nearly $1.6 million.
