DENVER—Some former students of a Colorado-based career college claim in an arbitration action that they were deceived about the value of their degrees and the cost of their education.
Westwood College serves 17,000 students on 17 campuses nationwide and online. It offers three-year degrees in criminal justice, interior design, video game art and other fields.
One graduate told CBS4 in Denver the University of Denver told her it couldn’t consider her for a master’s degree in business because Westwood isn’t regionally accredited.
Some Colorado colleges told the station they won’t accept Westwood credits. Others said they would under certain conditions.
Westwood says its enrollment contract states there is no guarantee of credit transfer. The college has applied for regional accreditation. A decision is pending before the Higher Learning Commission.
Westwood also produced several students who insist they’re getting their money’s worth at the school.
Westwood also says interest rates on student loans are clearly stipulated on documents students must sign for aid. A bachelor’s degree from the college costs from $66,000 to $77,000.
