A Littleton soccer coach was sentenced to 24 years in prison Friday in Jefferson County District Court for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl last year.
Stephen Martin Meyers, 46, had pleaded guilty in August to charges of kidnapping and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
After he serves his sentence, he will remain on intense supervised probation, for anywhere from 20 years to the rest of his life.
Meyers had been the goalkeeper coach for the girl’s team of the Littleton Soccer Club.
On Oct. 23, 2008, a 13-year-old girl got into a fight with her parents over the use of her cellphone. She left her house and telephoned Meyers, who picked her up and drove out of town.
Her parents became worried because it was a cold night. They telephoned Littleton police about 9:30 that night. Police launched a massive search for her, including K-9 dogs.
A short while later, Meyers telephoned the girl’s mother and lied to her about where he was and whether he was with the girl.
Meyers and the girl drove to a motel in Colorado Springs, where they had sex. Later, they drove to Walsenburg where they rented another room and had sex again, police said. He turned himself in the next day.
