An Evening with Ernie Gehr, this year’s Stan Brakhage Award recipient: Gehr’s work must be seen on-screen. There, the images seem to say, “Let’s get lost.” Light. Motion. Silence. Time. These become themes, repeated, submitted to. Gehr classics like “Serene Velocity” and “Glider” make a viewer reflect on consciousness — the filmmaker’s but also our own.
