Unless the Nuggets could also play the Washington Generals (or, heck, the Washington Wizards), the upcoming schedule couldn’t be easier.
After playing winless New Jersey on Tuesday, tonight Denver will face Minnesota, a team that has won only once — against the Nets.
On Friday, things get more challenging. The Knicks come to town, and they have triple the wins of Minnesota. The Wolves then come to Denver on Sunday, followed by Golden State on Tuesday.
So just how does Denver coach George Karl keep his troops motivated against these F Troops?
“The value of every game is the same, whether it’s against the Lakers, Celtics or Nets,” Karl said. “We’re in a stage in the season where we’ve got to get better and continue to figure out our personality — and develop our personality. I think if it came on February or March, there would less things I could distract them with. But we need to move on and (improve).”
Last season, the Nuggets were a combined 8-1 against Minnesota, New York and Golden State, with the only loss at the Warriors, 111-101.
Old pals.
Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin, a former No. 1 overall pick by New Jersey, said he is privately rooting for coach Lawrence Frank to somehow get his squad winning consistently.
“He just cares so much,” Martin said. “He puts his all into it, even when he was an assistant coach.”
The Nets are amid an overwhelming road trip that includes Portland, Sacramento and the Los Angeles Lakers.
