BAGHDAD — Liza is one lucky dog. And so is her family.
The ginger-colored mutt stranded atop the bombed-out ruins of her home was reunited with her owners Wednesday after a night spent chained to a railing.
Farouq Omar Muhei and his family had been presumed dead after their neighborhood was struck in a wave of suicide bombings Tuesday.
So neighbors were stunned when Muhei and his teenage son showed up Wednesday after being treated at a clinic.
After the blasts, the family’s 6-year-old German shepherd mix was spotted on a narrow section of wall, but the precarious location made it too dangerous for workers to free her.
So Liza spent the night chained to a railing on the L-shaped bit of wall, her empty water bucket beside her.
Muhei’s brother, the only one with sturdy shoes, made the perilous rescue climb.
