Fire crews battled a blaze that engulfed a remote grief-counseling center in Fort Collins on Wednesday afternoon.
Residents and employees of the Center for Loss and Life Transition at 3735 Broken Bow Road escaped unharmed, along with their pets, when flames broke out about 1 p.m., said Patrick Love, a spokesman for the Poudre Fire Authority. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
About 40 firefighters went to the scene, but the remote location hampered their efforts, Love said. There were no fire hydrants, and water had to be ferried to the site, he said.
He said it was too early to determine if the structure is a total loss, “but there’s going to be significant loss here.”
According to its website, the center was founded in 1983 to help those coping with loss. Founder Dr. Alan Wolfelt told Love the structure was worth about $1.6 million, according to the Fort Collins Coloradoan. The Denver Post
