MANIK FARM, Sri Lanka — More than 700 former Tamil Tiger rebels were reunited with family members Saturday after months in rehabilitation camps since the country’s decades-long civil war ended last year.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa joined the hands of 15 men, women and children with relatives at a special ceremony at the Manik Farm camp in northern Sri Lanka where more than 100,000 war refugees are housed.

Government forces routed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam guerrillas in May. According to the government, more than 12,000 rebels or suspected rebels, including children, were sent to rehabilitation camps.
