Lindsey Vonn fell in her slalom race Tuesday in Flachau, Austria, but the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame was there to pick her up, figuratively, anyway.

The Hall named the Vail resident the 2009 athlete of the year in recognition of Vonn’s second straight overall women’s World Cup championship and two gold medals in the world championships.

Her fall happened on the first run of a World Cup race. Austria’s Marlies Schild won the race, but Vonn maintained the overall standings lead.

Other athletes recognized by the Hall of Fame: CU track star Jenny Barringer, college female athlete of the year; Air Force hockey’s Jacques Lamoureax (college male); Shelby Babcock, Legacy High School (high school female) and Bryan Peters, Rocky Mountain (male high school).
