DENVER—The Colorado Department of Education says 74.6 percent of the class of 2009 graduated from high school, an increase of 0.7 percentage points from 2008.
There is still a gap in graduation rates for white students and minorities. The graduation rate last school year was 61.3 percent for minority students and 79.2 percent for white students, a gap of 17.9 percentage points. In the 2007-2008 school year, the gap was 19.1 percentage points.
Graduation rates rose for Asian, Hispanic and black students last year but fell for Native Americans.
Students who earn a GED are not considered graduates in the statistics.
