BROOMFIELD — A worker died Friday when a bucket lift malfunctioned while he was working on an overhead electrical line.

The fatal accident happened about 10:15 a.m. at Sheridan Boulevard and West 120th Avenue, according to North Metro Fire Rescue. The victim was identified late Friday as 53-year-old Ross K. Thompson of Lakewood.

Fire rescue said Thompson and a co-worker, who work for Sturgeon Electric Company Inc., were “putting up a line, which was not live,” when an overhead bucket gave way.

Thompson died at the scene. The surviving worker was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital with “traumatic injuries.”
