Getting your player ready...

Newcomers and old fans alike were raving for more before Split Lip Rayfield had even finished its set at the Bluebird on Saturday. Photo by Marla Keown.

The crowd at the on Saturday night started out pretty sparse for the first opening act and grew by the time came on stage.

The Kansas band got the crowd ready by doing toasts in the air with the crowd after about every song. By the time took to stage, the house was packed and roaring. The upbeat bluegrass band played a handful of older songs intermixed with some songs off their new CD. The crowd was talkative with the SLR guys and, at one point, the band even felt comfortable enough to ask if anyone had a van for sale (their van had barely made it to the venue that night.) By the end of the set, the crowd was raving for more SLR. They kindly obliged, and came out for an encore for the elated crowd. — Marla Keown
