VAIL, Colo.—A former Vail Catholic school teacher has pleaded no contest to allegations that she told students to tape each other’s mouths with duct tape as punishment for talking in class in September.

Rosa Gonzalez’s plea was for one misdemeanor child abuse charge in a deal with prosecutors Tuesday that called for two other child abuse charges to be dropped. Gonzalez initially plead guilty to one count of child abuse but changed her plea to no contest after several of the student’s parents spoke on her behalf.

The parents told the judge that the students were not harmed and that Gonzalez had already been punished by losing her job.

Gonzalez was a teacher at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic School in Edwards.
