A small two-engine plane heading to the Denver area crashed into a Chicago subdivision Saturday night.
According to the FAA, a Piper Aerostar with the tail number N222AQ left the Aurora Municipal Airport in Illinois with two people on board and crashed in the Sugar Grove subdivision about 7 p.m. CST.
Kane County Sheriff’s spokesman Pat Gengler told the Associated Press that two men on the plane died. Gengler said officials believe the plane struck the ground and the debris of the plane hit a garage.
A Piper Aerostar from suburban Chicago had been scheduled to arrive at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport at 9:46 Saturday night, airport manager Kenneth Maenpa said.
The Aerostar was last registered to ENS Corp., a technology firm in Hollywood, Fla.
In a telephone interview with the Chicago Tribune, Cathy Doyle said she was in her home with three other family members when the debris struck her garage. She said she was thankful they all were safe.
“It’s nerve racking. My family is all safe, thank the Lord,” she told the Tribune.
NTSB investigators said officials expected to release the names of the victims Sunday.
