Firefighters put out a blaze this afternoon at a residential complex in east Denver.
The fire broke out at about 1:25 p.m. at 8235 E. Fairmount Drive, at Woodside Village, Denver Fire Department spokesman Phil Champagne said.
The fire was sparked by a plumber soldering inside unit No. 105, part of a 16-unit building, and the fire quickly spread into the structure’s walls, Champagne said.
Four units were “extensively damaged,” Champagne said.
The plumber, who suffered cuts and smoke inhalation, was treated at the scene and released, Champagne said.
The worker suffered some injury as the tried to put out the blaze.
More than 30 firefighters knocked out the fire in about 15 minutes.
As firefighters mopped-up the scene, pulling sheet rock from walls and ceilings to make sure the fire wasn’t laying down and hiding, this afternoon, a stunned resident looked over his home.
Inside unit 101, a long-time resident said he was at home earlier in the afternoon when he smelled smoke and the electricity went out.
The man, who asked not to be identified, said firefighters banged on his door a short-time later and told him to get out.
Afterward, assessing the smoke and water damage to his unit, the home-owner came to grips with his predicament: “It is just now sinking in.”
