GRAND FORKS, N.D.—The son of former NHL star Craig Simpson says he will play his college hockey at North Dakota.

Defenseman Dillon Simpson, an Edmonton native, gave a verbal commitment over the weekend, choosing UND over Denver, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Simpson is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound, two-way defenseman. He is the third-highest scoring defenseman in the Alberta Junior Hockey League as a 16-year-old rookie. He is to come to UND either next season or in 2011.
