Colorado Toyota dealers had little comment and few answers Wednesday about how they’ll deal with a major recall and suspension of sales for some models.

Questions that remain unanswered Wednesday include exactly how defective accelerator pedals will be fixed, how many vehicles need to be recalled, and how long it will take to service customers’ cars and trucks.

“The dealers don’t have much information (from Toyota) to go on,” said Tim Jackson, president of the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association. “They’re hoping to get more (today). Right now it’s in the wait-and-see mode.”

Jackson said dealers were told Wednesday by Toyota that less than 1 percent of the vehicles in the eight models listed for recall and halted sales are potentially susceptible to stuck accelerator pedals.

Dealers don’t know how long Toyota will require sales of the affected models to be suspended.

“We’ve just pulled them off the lot,” said Steve Doersam, general manager of Boulder Toyota Scion.

Doersam said the suspended models represent 43 vehicles out his total of about 300.

“We’ve still got plenty of inventory,” he said. “This is a fairly small percentage of the new and used cars we have available.”

Several other Colorado Toyota dealers did not return phone calls for comment.
