COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A chain reaction of crashes involving six cars on Interstate 25 injured several people and shut down northbound and southbound lanes for two hours.

The Colorado State Patrol says one car was in the shoulder of the southbound lanes just before 7:25 p.m. Friday when another car pulled behind it to help. That car was struck by a third vehicle, and a pickup truck that swerved to miss the collision, rolled through the median and struck a northbound vehicle.

Then another southbound vehicle swerved to miss the original crash and hit another southbound vehicle.

But the original car was hit by any of the vehicles.

The patrol says as between five and seven people sustained non-lifethreatening injuries. The most serious was the driver of the pickup who was airlifted to a hospital.
