Damian Martinez Jr. may want to be a fireman when he grows up.
The little guy was delivered Tuesday in a Westminster apartment by a Westminster Fire Department crew headed by paramedic Duane Linkus.
The crew from Fire Station No. 2 arrived at the apartment near Federal Boulevard and 92nd Avenue at 3:58 a.m., and set up for a “field delivery” in the bedroom.
Within a minute, mom Vanessa Martinez gave birth.
“As soon as the baby was delivered, he let out a loud cry letting everyone know he was here,” Linkus said in a news release. “It was pretty exciting because it was the first field delivery for one our firefighters.”
Mother and Damian were then taken by ambulance to a hospital. They are now at home and are doing fine.
One year ago to the day that Damian Jr. was born, Westminster Fire handled another surprise delivery. On Jan. 26, 2009, Cassandra Garcia gave birth to Daniel Hurtado in an ambulance on U.S. 36.
Cassandra and Daniel had visited the crew at Westminster Fire Station No. 2 the afternoon before this year’s birth.
