An investigation into a metropolitan Denver auto theft ring has led to the arrest of six people and the recovery of six stolen vehicles, the Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force said today.

The arrests were made during the past two days in Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Denver and Jefferson County, according to Sgt. Dave Hoover of the task force.

Hoover said task force detectives developed information that a woman was attempting to sell a vehicle which had been stolen.

Working in an undercover capacity, the stolen vehicle was purchased and that purchase led investigators to five more stolen vehicles.

In addition, detectives seized several weapons and a small amount of drugs.

Hoover said the investigation is on-going and additional charges are probable. Those arrested are currently being held for investigation of aggravated motor vehicle theft, fencing, as well as weapons and drug charges.

Hoover said the identities of those arrested will not be made public until additional arrests have been made.
